Fall Weekend 2024 Activities and Schedule

The entire Mitchell College community is excited to get back together on our beautiful campus for this year’s Fall Weekend, with events for students, alumni, parents, friends of Mitchell, and guests from our New London community.

Check out the schedule below for a full weekend of events. All activities are free to attend unless otherwise indicated. Some events require registration.

NOTE: Event times and descriptions are subject to change and may be impacted by the weather. We will be sending out communications via email and making updates to this webpage as needed.

This is Michael’s final weekend of the 2024 season. Be sure to get your fix and stock up with treats to take home.

The Mitchell College Athletics Department is proud to announce the 12th induction class of the Mitchell College Athletics Hall of Fame. 2024 Inductees are:  Alvin Young ’97  and  Joshua Ford ’15  of men’s basketball, Gina Derosier (Lindberg) ’06  and  Sarah Craft (Kill) ’01  of women’s basketball, Kyle Hartenstein ’18  and  J.R. Chiappone ’93  of baseball, Chris Mackinnel ’07  and  Dean Roberts of men’s soccer, and the 2010 women’s soccer team.

9:45–10:45am | Thames Parent Reception & Workshop | Matteson Hall | Current Thames Parents

Join us for an insightful discussion with Jennifer Sullivan, author of “Sharing the Transition to College”. This interactive event will delve into the complex dynamics between parents and their emerging college students. Discover practical strategies to support your child’s journey toward independence. Learn about upcoming opportunities inside and outside the classroom that will enhance your students experience in the Thames at Mitchell program.

10:00–10:45am | Academic Session: Career Preparation at Mitchell | Weller Center | Current Parents and Families

Everyone wants a job! Join Integrative Career Development Coordinator Paul Dunn and a panel of Mitchell students to hear how we are preparing students for the 21st Century workplace. We’ll offer a quick peek at our career seminar course and our unique micro-internship program, students will speak about the challenges and rewards of completing an internship (required for graduation), and we’ll cap it off with a look at how the Mitchell Hub for Digital Innovation and Educational Excellence can complement the academic majors and the field placements our students experience as they prepare for career success.

Attention all baseball and softball alumni – PLEASE COME HOME! Join multiple generations of Mitchell ballers on our beautiful new fields for a friendly in-sport rivalry to relive your favorite days on the diamonds.

Come cheer on the men Mariners for their final regular season home game against GNAC opponent Rivier Raiders.

Take advantage of this last gasp of the 2024 Michael’s Dairy season. Indulge in your favorite treats and take some to go!

Noon–2:00pm | Tailgate Party | Tent Near Athletic Fields | Open to All

Ahoy, Mariner fans! Join us under the tent for a true tailgate feast as we fuel up and rally our team spirit for the three varsity matches and alumni baseball & softball games. A cash bar, Mariner merch sale, and more will be adjacent to the tailgate.

Cost: $20 per visitor, $15 for Mitchell and Thames students (not part of meal plans)

Noon–5:00pm | Library Open

Explore the newly renovated space, browse our yearbook collection, and view a Michael’s Dairy display from the archives.

1:30pm | Women’s Soccer v. Lasell | Soccer Field

Come cheer as the women Mariners rally for their final home game of the regular season and clash against GNAC rival Lasell Lasers.

3:30–4:30pm | All-Alumni Reunion | Weller Center | (toast for Classes of 4s at 4:00pm)

Calling Mitchell alumni. Join us for a celebration of the most important part of our Mitchell College history – YOU! This gathering will be a place to relax, reconnect, and relive some of your favorite Mitchell memories. Catch up with one another and learn about what’s happening at Mitchell today amidst light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. A special tribute to members of all classes ending in 4 will be included and all alumni are welcome.

4:00pm | Women’s Volleyball v. Norwich | Yarnall Center Gym

Let’s GOOOO Mariners! Watch the volleyball team in action as they challenge Norwich University for GNAC bragging rights.

5:00–7:00pm | Milner Hall Dining Open | Cost: $10.50 per visitor; student meal plans honored in the Dining Hall

7:30–8:30pm | Performing Arts Cabaret | Clarke Center Stage | Open to All

Come and celebrate the Performing Arts at Mitchell! The evening will showcase the work of the Performing Arts Program at Mitchell, and feature excerpts from Mitchell Theatre’s fall production of “The Play That Goes Wrong”, the Mitchell Select Chorus offering several pieces scheduled for their November concert program, and selections from the Mitchell Dance/Cheer Squad as they head into the Fall Showcase. All alumni will are welcome to enjoy a special reserved section and all Performing Arts alumni will have the opportunity to reminisce about their experiences as a member of this vibrant community.

8:30–9:30pm | Beach Bonfire | Mitchell Beach | Open to All

Get cozy next to a bonfire and enjoy s’more treats on our own beach with the lights of New London in the distance. Bonfire is weather permitting.
