Theresa Hopkins-Staten
President, Eversource Energy Foundation and
Vice President, Corporate Citizenship and Equity
Theresa Hopkins-Staten leads Eversource’s enterprise-wide focus on Pro-Equity, driving foundational understanding to ensure stronger equity, accountability, inclusion, and fairness by employees in their daily practices and interactions with our customers and communities — particularly those that are underserved, economically challenged, and environmentally burdened. She also oversees the company’s foundation, investing in initiatives and organizations aligned with the foundation’s focus areas that help to build a healthier, more sustainable and equitable future for our customers and communities.
Previously, as the Connecticut Director of Regulatory Affairs, she worked with business partners to develop regulatory strategies for procedural hearings and company filings and worked with the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority staff and other consumer advocates and agencies to respond to customer issues and concerns. She also directed the oversight of escalated customer complaints for Eversource in Connecticut and western Massachusetts.
Hopkins-Staten began her career at Eversource in the Legal Department as Senior Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary and after several years of practicing law accepted a position in management, becoming President of the company’s foundation and Director of Corporate Community Relations.
She is currently a member of the E-Source Executive Committee, Co-chair of the University of Connecticut African American Alumni Council, a Board member of the iQuilt Partnership, Community Renewal Team, and Diversity Committee of the New England Women in Energy and the Environment.
Hopkins-Staten has received numerous recognitions and awards for her unwavering leadership and dedication to community service, including the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut 2025 Visionary Leader Award, 2024 Women for Whittier award recipient, having her photograph unveiled in celebration of UConn Law School’s 150th anniversary in a “Gallery of Pioneers” honoring alumni for their community service and professional achievements, receiving the 2018 Connecticut Bar Association “Citizen of the Law Award”, receiving the Inaugural 100 Women of Color Award, Greater Hartford NAACP Queens Gala Award, University of Connecticut Alumni Association Service and Inaugural Diversity Alumni Awards, Urban League of Southern Connecticut African American Woman of Distinction, Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts Woman of Merit Award, Hartford Business Journal Remarkable Women in Business Award, Allstate Insurance Sankofa Award, and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Community Service Award.
Hopkins-Staten graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Sociology, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. In addition, she earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree (PhD) from Goodwin University.
She was Awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Promoting Racial Equity in the Workplace Program, March 2023, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Executive Education.

How long is the Commencement ceremony?
The ceremony is approximately two hours.
Where is it held?
The Commencement ceremony will be held on the College Green under a large tent.
Where is parking available?
Parking is available in campus lots by Henry Hall on Pequot Avenue and at the corner of De Biasi Drive and Montauk Avenue. Handicapped parking is available and shuttle service on golf carts is available on a limited basis. Speak to a security officer at the Montauk Avenue Main Campus Entrance.
What if it rains?
The Commencement ceremony will be held rain or shine under the large tent on the College Green.
How do I request special accommodations?
To make arrangements for guests with special needs, please fill out the Accessibility Request Form by May 9.

How many people may I invite to the ceremony?
While you may invite as many people as you like, each student will receive four (4) tickets for the guaranteed seating area, which can be accessed until 10:00 a.m. when the Commencement Procession begins.
Any guests beyond the ticket holders will be directed to the open seating area (no tickets needed), which is available on a first-come/first-served basis and is located towards the back of the tent. The tent will open starting at 9:00 a.m. Guests may also bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for additional seating on the Green. Seats in the guaranteed seating area may not be saved prior to the arrival of the ticket holders. Please look for an usher in a red sash for assistance or to answer questions on the day of the event.
Will the ceremony be live streamed?
Yes, the Mitchell College Commencement Ceremony will be streamed live via Zoom beginning at 10:00am.

Professional Photography
Gradlmages is the official photographer for Commencement. Their photographers will take individual photographs of students as they receive their diploma and another in front of a backdrop after they have exited the stage. Candid photos will also be taken. Students will receive proofs from GradImages via email a week or two after graduation. Proofs can also be viewed online at www.gradimages.com. You will have the option of choosing from several photo packages at very reasonable prices. However, there is no obligation to purchase. Pictures may be ordered online or by phone. Mitchell College Rental Properties
Mitchell College owns and operates several rental properties very close to campus that serve visitors to the area and help support the College financially. The College offers a direct rate when renting directly from us (no Airbnb fees, taxes, or cleaning fees). A list of our properties is below. Please let us know the name of the house and dates you are interested in and we will provide you with the rate. Once confirmed, we will reserve the vacation rental and send you the contract with payment schedule for your review and approval.
