Online Summer Courses at Mitchell College

Summer is a great opportunity to make progress toward your degree while enjoying the flexibility to learn on your own schedule. Mitchell College’s online asynchronous summer courses are designed for students who want to stay academically engaged without the structure of daily class meetings.

Whether you’re looking to complete a requirement, lighten your course load for the upcoming semester, or explore a topic that interests you, summer courses allow you to continue moving forward from wherever you are. Students can complete coursework independently throughout the week, making it easier to balance summer jobs, internships, athletics, travel, or other commitments.

COURSE OPTIONS

Principles of Leadership (BU240)

Instructor: Bob Forcier

This course is an introduction to the foundations and principles of leadership. Students explore the concepts of motivation, leadership traits, creating a vision, understanding influence, overcoming obstacles, developing character, and establishing a professional brand. They apply hands-on leadership skills that challenge their own beliefs about leadership. Students utilize reading, self- awareness, peer assessment, and case studies to analyze leadership behaviors. This course allows students to develop their own personal leadership style. This newly discovered capability can be used in future leadership positions or as part of a team. This course is designated “W” as a writing-intensive course.

Intro to Race, Ethnicity, and Culture (SO112)

Instructor: Sarbjeet Kaur

This is an introduction to foundational theories and concepts in the study of race and ethnicity in the United States. This course utilizes interdisciplinary perspectives from the social sciences and humanities to examine historical and contemporary practices and institutions that support or challenge racism, sociocultural, political, and economic impacts of dominant-minority relations, and intersections of race and ethnicity with gender, class, and other identities.

June 15 — Summer Session Begins; Add/Drop Begins
June 17 — Add/Drop ends at 5:00 p.m.
June 19 — Juneteenth; College offices closed
June 22 — Student Attendance Census Mandatory Reporting by Faculty
July 4 — Independence Day; College offices closed
August 7 — Summer Session Ends
August 10 — Final Grades for Summer Session Due to Registrar by 9:00 a.m.

Summer Course Costs

Tuition: $1,500 per course* ($500 per credit, 3 credits)
Academic Support: $585 per course**

*Mitchell College students who are on a financial hold must pay all back balances before registering for a course.
**Bentsen Learning Center support is available during the session to students who are currently enrolled in the BLC program.
