Fall 2024 Courses
Courses are thoughtfully selected to fulfill general education requirements in subjects of high interest. Courses are designed to prepare students well for future coursework, either in the MiniMester program or in the regular session the following fall semester. All students in the O-Term program must take both courses and will earn a total of 6 credits:
CO126: Interpersonal Communication (3 credits)
Tuesday and Friday, 9:00am–noon
Ever wonder how some people just seem to know how to win friends and influence people? Or why first impressions last longest? What these idioms have in common is that they help explain the importance of appropriate interpersonal communications. Knowing one’s audience as well as the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of effective interpersonal communications is essential in school, work, and life. This course exposes students to various interpersonal communication conventions and expectations required of a professional career. It also provides in-person practice at implementing them as one enters, participates in, and leaves the classroom.
PY216: Psychology of Well-Being (3 credits)
Monday and Thursday, 9:00am–noon
The application of psychology has traditionally focused on “making miserable people less miserable” (Seligman, 2004). However, a new era of psychology has shifted toward utilizing the science of the discipline to “improve normal lives.” In this course students critically consider the principles of positive psychology and apply evidence-based interventions to enhance their own psychological well-being as they think about what really causes happiness.
Note: Satisfactory completion of both courses is required to fulfill program requirements.
