Instructor or Assistant Professor - Behavioral Science Department

Position Summary

Mitchell College is building on its long history of making liberal arts education more accessible by pioneering an entirely new approach which is flexible, strength-based and interest driven. Our ability- based approach to learning focuses on teaching adaptability through a core academic discipline curriculum, which provides multiple opportunities for students to apply skills in different learning and professional contexts. To keep this model innovative, vibrant and responsive to students’ interests, we need instructors and faculty who are experienced in building cross-disciplinary collaborations between areas of interest, both in our core curriculum and in dynamic new concentrations of study. This revolutionary approach to learning ensures students learn the adaptive skills they need to live life well, both professionally and personally.

To support and build upon this new model, the College is adding a new Instructor or Assistant Professor position within the Behavioral Science Department, who will share our passion for teaching across disciplines and becoming fully immersed within our student community. Our strengths include Human Development and Family Studies and Psychology. As such, disciplinary expertise in HDFS, Psychology or a related field of study is required. By seamlessly blending their expertise into our core curriculum, our new faculty will continue to ensure our students reach their full potential, with an opportunity to create a truly 21st century educational experience.

Assistant/Associate Professor - Business Department

Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice Department

To fully support and build upon this new model, the College is adding a new Assistant Professor position within the Criminal Justice Department, who will share our passion for teaching across disciplines and becoming fully immersed within our community.  For example, your Ph.D. in Criminal Justice (or related field) may lend itself to not only teaching within the same department, but creating a Behavioral Science course with a slant towards Forensic Psychology.  By seamlessly blending their expertise into our core curriculum, our new faculty will continue to ensure our students reach their full potential, with an opportunity to create a truly 21st century educational experience.

Assistant Professor - Early Childhood Education Division/Department: Teaching and Learning

The Department of Early Childhood Education is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach early childhood education undergraduate courses beginning in September 2018. Mitchell College is only one of five colleges in the state of Connecticut that is sanctioned to offer the Connecticut Department of Education #113 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, Nursery-K-Elementary, 1-3 certification. Additional responsibilities include assisting with program review and revision, compliance with CAEP, state regulations and guidelines, assisting in supporting teacher candidates in all aspects edTPA, student advising, curriculum development, program development, and new course development.

Residence Hall Director - Student Affairs

Position Summary

Mitchell College is looking for a Residence Hall Director, who will be responsible for utilizing the Community Development Model to create an exceptional living and learning environment, to build relationships between and among the residential community, to facilitate student development, and to encourage active participation in extracurricular opportunities. S/He will be responsible for the supervision of student Resident Assistants and student Desk Assistants, response to student concerns, administrative and facility management, and participation in department initiatives. The position requires an ability to promote student academic success; provide leadership for positively managing a diverse student community; and applying student development theory to residence hall community development, student concerns, staff supervision, student organization advising, educational & social programming.
