Mitchell holds a unique place in the higher ed landscape

Diversity and academic support is in our DNA.

Our students come from all walks of life and from 26 states, Washington D.C., and 4 countries; 33% are students of color; and 42% report as first generation college students. In addition, Mitchell College sees the intrinsic value of including students with diverse ways of thinking. Estimates suggest 20% of people have learning differences, including perhaps 33% of entrepreneurs. True to our history, Mitchell College continues to offer deep and personalized attention to all of our students, including those with learning differences. Our commitment to teaching to individual learning styles is unwavering. The Bentsen Learning Center earns acclaim from parents and students and we routinely rank among the top colleges in the country for LD programs.

But that’s not the end of the story. The Mitchell College mission of celebrating and developing the power of unique minds makes us a particularly strong choice for many students.

For students who…

  • want the space, time and guidance to explore what is compelling to them
  • may have a learning style that doesn’t “fit” traditional education models, or
  • desire a micro-college experience where professors and staff are personally invested in their success…

…there is no better place to be.

For all students, the personalized approach is the same:

  • identify untapped potential
  • offer a safe place of exploration with individualized academic tutoring and coaching to support and callenge
  • craft an educational experience based on student strengths and interests
  • engage students in intellectual, analytical and social growth that prepares them for full professional and personal lives

A few words on fit.

"Fit” is the modern buzzword of the college search process. And frankly, rightly so. As you consider your college experience, we encourage you to look for a place that feels right. It’s also a good idea to make a list of the qualities and characteristics that make a college and you a winning combination.

If you are looking for a college that:

  • Gets to know and understand each student as a uniquely talented individual

  • Identifies potential and encourages students in very intentional ways

  • Fosters growth in each student, giving them a foundation for life and career success

  • Is small enough to deliver on the promise of a personalized experience

  • Goes beyond “career services” and offers a progressive 4-year career development model, partnering with local businesses and nonprofits for professional experience

  • Promotes an inclusive culture that encourages students to experiment in new clubs and activities

  • Is nationally recognized for its academic support systems, from professional content tutors (not students) to proven comprehensive support for students with learning differences

  • Connects students to service opportunities that impact their world

  • Is in a location that offers access to New England’s natural places and some of America’s greatest cities

…Mitchell College delivers in a powerful way.
