Commencement Speaker: DAN HOLDRIDGE
On September 11, 2001, Dan Holdridge was at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he had been working for several months for General Dynamics, overseeing computer engineering operations in a newly renovated section of the building. When American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building, killing 184 people, he suffered serious injuries, while others just 10 feet away, on another side of a wall, did not survive.
Since 2002 he has used his experience that day to work to inspire audiences by speaking to them with a powerful message of appreciation and leadership, gratitude and resiliency, and purpose.
The historic day’s events were also captured in his best-selling book, “Surviving September 11th,” where he writes, “You don’t have to live through a terrorist attack to learn from one.” In his book he shares his personal story of 9/11 to offer wisdom to navigate today’s world. He challenges readers to appreciate the life they are living right now and to appreciate the people around them for the contributions they make. He offers that real success is found by living in humility while giving gratitude.
Holdridge is also the author of “Pentagon Prayer: The Story of a September 11th Survivor.” His story has been featured on the BBC, NBC, Fox, and radio shows throughout the world.
In addition to being a keynote speaker, Holdridge is CEO of 4E Eagle Electric Engineering Enterprise, based in Ashaway, RI. In his role he oversees the entire operation of the electrical engineering and manufacturing corporation, including finance, human resources, project management, business development, customer communications, and continuing quality improvement programs.
Holdridge is a longtime member of the executive board of the New London County 4-H Foundation and currently serves in leadership roles for both the New Hampshire 4-Foundation and the University of New Hampshire 4-H State Youth Leadership Team.
Holdridge resides in Deerfield, NH, where he serves as town moderator. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and an Executive Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of New Haven.
