Mitchell College Select Chorus Announces 2021 Spring Concert: Tuesday, March 30 at 7pm

Showtime: Tuesday, March 30 @ 7pm  (note in-person seating restrictions)

Location: Red Barn at Mitchell College
Doors Open: 6:30 pm
Audience: In-person seating is open ONLY to current Mitchell and Thames resident students, plus commuter students and faculty/staff who are regularly on campus and submitting weekly Covid test results. Socially distanced seating will be limited! No pre-ticketing. Face masks/coverings required at all performances.

The Mitchell College Select Chorus will present a potpourri of choral selections ranging from portions of J. S. Bach’s Cantata 62 and English Partsongs to contemporary settings of Loch Lomond and Fats Waller’s Ain’t Misbehavin’.  Join Mitchell’s premier vocal talents in experimenting with Rounds and Canons, and perhaps enjoy the vocal stylings of select students from the Mitchell Voice Studio!

President’s Reception March 20

Mitchell College is looking forward to welcoming students and family members to our Virtual President’s Reception on Saturday, March 20 at 10:30am. Guests will get an in-depth look at Mitchell College through presentations by and conversations with faculty, staff, and current students, representing: athletics, financial aid, campus life, advising, career development, performing arts, Living & Learning support programs including Thames, Mystic and the Bentsen Learning Center. Accepted students can get any questions answered and learn next steps on becoming a Mariner!

Students who have committed to Mitchell College or Thames at Mitchell College will also benefit from an online, pre-orientation program during this event in preparation to enroll this fall. Children’s Learning Center Open House on March 6 at Mitchell College

Discover why the Children’s Learning Center at Mitchell College may be the perfect fit for your family! At our March 6, 2021 Open House, you’ll:

  • Get a sneak peek at the Reggio Emilia Approach and meet our teachers and director 
  • Pick up information regarding the preschool and kindergarten program
  • Have an opportunity to register your child/ren for the 2021/2022 school year

The nature-based Children’s Learning Center is adjacent to Mitchell College in the historic Chappell Cottage at Mitchell Woods. Parking will be available in the Children’s Learning Center parking lot and on Montauk Avenue.

Black History Month events announced by the Multicultural Student Union

The Multicultural Student Union at Mitchell College has planned several activities for Mitchell and Thames students during Black History Month (events this year are not open to the public), including: 

2/9, 2/16, 2/23 Wear Black, Green, Red and Yellow Day. All day!

2/10, 2/17, 2/24 Woke Wednesdays: information on mental health in the Black community, hidden figures in Black history, how to be an ally to the Black community. Milner Hallway; 11am-2pm.

2/17 Black History: Jeopardy Night. Red Barn 7:30-9:30pm

2/19: “Weaves, Waves and Braids,” a discussion on Black hair – what natural hair means, the origin of hairstyles and tips for styling Black hair. Virtual event (Check Presence app); 8-9:30pm. 

2/24 Black History: Movie Night. Red Barn; 7:00-9:00pm

All month: Community Voices. Throughout the month, students are encouraged to submit writings or videos about what Black History Month means to them to share on social media platforms.
