Who is the new Mariner mascot??

We are exploring new ideas for a mascot to represent the Mitchell Mariners. The Student Government Association is leading the campus in identifying options for a new mascot that captures Mitchell’s spirit and represents us well in all the places you think of seeing our mascot—on a Mitchell gear, on the playing fields, on the website. The first step in this process is gathering ideas.

What’s a great mascot?

  • For us, we are keeping the Mariners name, but we are ready for a new mascot. Think outside the boat! It doesn’t have to be a strict interpretation to be seaworthy.
  • For our Athletic teams, we are fierce competitors and our mascot should be fierce, too
  • For the Red, Black and White that are the colors of Mariner pride
  • For Mitchell, we have our own culture, a beautiful location and a rich history

The mascot becomes:

  • A logo, represented in print, online, on uniforms, etc.
  • A costume to be used athletic and campus events
  • The image of the College

Send your mascot ideas:

All students, faculty, staff and alumni should submit ideas electronically by e‐mail to: mascot@Mitchell.edu. Submissions can include a description or graphic representation of your idea. Submissions will be accepted through February 28, 2018.

Mitchell College shall have the sole discretion to select the mascot concept based on this and other criteria that it feels, in its sole discretion, as appropriate. The decision of the College is final. All ideas and drawings submitted to the College will become the exclusive and perpetual property of Mitchell College, and if selected, the concept or some version thereof, will be trademarked by Mitchell College. Mitchell College will be responsible for the final design of the mascot.

A few words on fit.

"Fit” is the modern buzzword of the college search process. And frankly, rightly so. As you consider your college experience, we encourage you to look for a place that feels right. It’s also a good idea to make a list of the qualities and characteristics that make a college and you a winning combination.

If you are looking for a college that:

  • Gets to know and understand each student as a uniquely talented individual

  • Identifies potential and encourages students in very intentional ways

  • Fosters growth in each student, giving them a foundation for life and career success

  • Is small enough to deliver on the promise of a personalized experience

  • Goes beyond “career services” and offers a progressive 4-year career development model, partnering with local businesses and nonprofits for professional experience

  • Promotes an inclusive culture that encourages students to experiment in new clubs and activities

  • Is nationally recognized for its academic support systems, from professional content tutors (not students) to proven comprehensive support for students with learning differences

  • Connects students to service opportunities that impact their world

  • Is in a location that offers access to New England’s natural places and some of America’s greatest cities

…Mitchell College delivers in a powerful way.
