Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

breast cancer walk

Mitchell College will hold its 2nd annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Sunday, October 22 at 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women; breast cancer also does not discriminate on the basis of gender. The event will feature Mitchell’s own Dr. Denise Braley as a guest speaker. A 20-year cancer survivor, Braley would like to challenge her students and colleagues to come out and walk with her to raise awareness and support research to save lives.

Pre-registration for the event can be found here; registration is $5 for Mitchell students/staff and is $10 for the general public. Registering prior to the event is recommended as registration will be increased to $15 the day of the walk. FREE commemorative t-shirts will be given to the first 50 people to sign up!

11th Annual Family Halloween Festival

HalloweenPoster2017

On Saturday, October 28, the Behavioral Sciences Club will host its 11th Annual Family Halloween Festival. This event will take place on the College Green, Weller Center, and Clarke Center. We are asking families to donate one non-perishable canned good to support the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Pantry. The event will feature numerous Halloween games, storytelling, arts and crafts, costume parades, a food pavilion and other festivities. Last year, close to 500 members of the local community were in attendance, and we look forward to a great turnout again this year.

We are now recruiting volunteers for this year’s festival! If any individual, club, or department would like to be a part of this exciting day by sponsoring an activity, facilitating games, helping with set-up or clean-up, donating items (i.e., candy, trinkets, and books), storytelling, and more, contact Jennifer Mauro at mauro_j@mitchell.edu or 860-701-7719.

On a cold, clear, night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine.  As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected, and often hilarious ways.  Almost, Maine is a play consisting of 9 brief scenes laced with magic, realism, humor, romance, and metaphors taken literally.

A few words on fit.

"Fit” is the modern buzzword of the college search process. And frankly, rightly so. As you consider your college experience, we encourage you to look for a place that feels right. It’s also a good idea to make a list of the qualities and characteristics that make a college and you a winning combination.

If you are looking for a college that:

  • Gets to know and understand each student as a uniquely talented individual

  • Identifies potential and encourages students in very intentional ways

  • Fosters growth in each student, giving them a foundation for life and career success

  • Is small enough to deliver on the promise of a personalized experience

  • Goes beyond “career services” and offers a progressive 4-year career development model, partnering with local businesses and nonprofits for professional experience

  • Promotes an inclusive culture that encourages students to experiment in new clubs and activities

  • Is nationally recognized for its academic support systems, from professional content tutors (not students) to proven comprehensive support for students with learning differences

  • Connects students to service opportunities that impact their world

  • Is in a location that offers access to New England’s natural places and some of America’s greatest cities

…Mitchell College delivers in a powerful way.
