Mitchell College invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of the College. Mitchell College is a small, private liberal arts college, serving 961 students from 30 states and 6 foreign countries. It is dedicated to providing a student-centered challenging education in a caring and supportive environment for all students, including those with varied academic abilities, untapped potential and learning differences. Mitchell College has achieved national prominence as a leader in the education of under-prepared students, those with learning disabilities and those experiencing roadblocks to academic success. It offers 3 associate degree programs and 14 baccalaureate degree programs.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of the College is the chief academic officer of the college with responsibility for all academic programs. Reporting directly to the president, this challenging position will provide executive leadership in policy formulation and management in planning institutional and academic programs; federal grant programs, and partnership opportunities with our regional business and industry community. This position is responsible for overall direction of the Learning Resource Center, Academic Advising and Tutoring Center; Thames Academy, Library and Information Services, Registrar’s Office and Academic Department Heads.
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate, a record of teaching, research and scholarship; the ability to articulate our mission, evidence of excellent management skills, the ability to foster and maintain collegial relationships throughout the campus community, and a record of support for students with varied academic abilities, untapped potential and learning differences.
Mitchell College is located in the small suburban city of New London, in southeastern Connecticut, located along the scenic Thames River. The city is a maritime resort center, close to Mystic Marinelife Aquarium, Mystic Seaport and Ocean Beach Park.
