Academic Open House
An Open House with a Twist!
Get the inside look at Mitchell College while exploring your academic interests! Meet faculty and students from the academic areas which interest you. Hear how our unique 4-year Integrative Career Development program prepares you to launch a successful and meaningful career. Meet alumni who are working in their fields of study and how they are using their Mitchell education to impact our world. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn about admission, financial aid, and academic support through presentations and panels.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday at Mitchell College’s 16th Annual Cat in the Hat Ball on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Clarke and Weller Centers. Enjoy family fun with children’s games, crafts, music, and story times in English and Spanish. Presented by the Education Department, the event is open to the public and free with a donation of one new children’s book or $5 per family. Local authors including Tish Rabe, best-selling author of “The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library,” will be reading excerpts and signing books. Commencement Speaker Ms. Juanita T. James
Juanita T. James is President and CEO of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. Formerly, she was Chief Marketing & Communications Officer for Pitney Bowes Inc. Prior to Pitney Bowes, Juanita built a progressive 20-year career in the media and entertainment industry with Time Warner, Inc. and Bertelsmann, Inc.
Ms. James is currently a Director of the Asbury Automotive Group, one of the nation’s largest automobile retailers, and previously was a Director of the Rouse Company. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, CF Leads, and the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy. In her community leadership role, she is a Corporator for First County Bank, and a Trustee of Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, where she chairs the Academic Affairs Committee, as well as a Trustee Emerita of Princeton University.
Formerly Ms. James served as a Trustee of the University of Connecticut; a Director of Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Board President of the Stamford Museum and Nature Center, a Director of Curtain Call, Inc., a Leadership Council member for the Childcare Learning Centers of Stamford, a Director of the Stamford Symphony and as Board Secretary for the Ferguson Library. She is also an ordained elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford.
Over the years, her commitment to the community has been acknowledged with numerous honors and awards including: the 2013 and 2011 NAACP “100 Most Influential Blacks in CT”, the 2012 “Excellence in Education Award” from the Stamford Public Education Foundation, the 2010 Moffly Media “Light a Fire Award”, the 2009 “Stamford Citizen of the Year”, the Southern Connecticut Urban League’s Community Service and Philanthropy Award, the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut’s “Women of Achievement Award”, the “Distinguished Achiever Leadership Award” from the Career Communications Group, Inc. the “Distinguished Alumni Award” from the Association of Black Princeton Alumni, the “Achievement Award” from the Greater New York Chapter of Links, the YMCA “National Black Achiever in Industry Award”, the Greenwich YWCA “Brava Award” and Time Inc.’s “Andrew Heiskell Award” for community service. In 2009, Diversity Journal named her one of the “25 Most Influential African Americans in Business.”
Ms. James holds a Master’s Degree in Business Policy from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business Program where she received the Distinguished Service Award. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Romance Languages from Princeton University.
Ms. James resides in Stamford, CT with her husband, Dudley Williams, Jr. and has one son, Dudley Williams III, a graduate of the Threshold Program at Lesley University.

How many people may I invite to the Commencement ceremony?While you may invite as many people as you like, each student will receive four (4) tickets for guaranteed seating area which can be accessed until 10:00 a.m. when the Commencement Procession begins. Any guests beyond the four ticketholders will be directed to the open seating area (no tickets needed) which is available on a first come/first serve basis. Guests may also bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for additional seating on the Green.
Will the ceremony be streamed?The 72nd Mitchell College Commencement Ceremony will be streamed live on at mitchell.edu/Commencement on May 14, 2016 beginning at 10:00 am.
What about parking?Parking is available in campus lots off Pequot and Montauk Avenues. Handicapped parking is available and shuttle service on golf carts is available on a limited basis. Speak to a security officer at the Montauk Avenue Main Campus Entrance.
